Authorship and Contributorship Policy
Jurnal Kesehatan, published by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Universitas Yatsi Madani, Indonesia, recognizes authorship as both acknowledgment of scholarly contributions and responsibility for the integrity of published research.
All authors submitting manuscripts to the journal must ensure that authorship accurately reflects the contributions made to the research and manuscript preparation. Each manuscript must include a statement describing the individual contributions of all listed authors. This policy applies to original research articles, literature reviews, and research or field reports.
1. Authorship Criteria
Authorship should be granted only to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research or manuscript. Such contributions may include:
-
Developing the research concept, design, or methodology.
-
Collecting, analyzing, or interpreting research data.
-
Conducting a substantial literature review or scholarly analysis that contributes directly to the manuscript's intellectual content.
-
Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important scholarly content.
In addition, all authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for their contributions. Authors must also cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the work.
Activities such as funding acquisition, general supervision, administrative support, data collection alone, or language editing do not automatically qualify an individual for authorship unless accompanied by substantial scholarly contributions.
2. Responsibilities of All Authors
Every listed author is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the manuscript and must:
-
Ensure that the work is original and that relevant sources are appropriately cited.
-
Confirm that the research methods, data, and findings are reported accurately.
-
Disclose relevant conflicts of interest and funding sources.
-
Ensure that applicable research ethics requirements have been fulfilled.
-
Review and approve the final manuscript before submission.
-
Agree to the authorship arrangement and the description of individual contributions.
-
Cooperate with the editorial team when clarification, corrections, or investigations are necessary.
Authors should communicate with one another throughout manuscript preparation and agree on the final content before submission.
3. Corresponding Author
The corresponding author serves as the principal contact between the authors and the journal throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
-
Submitting the manuscript and ensuring that the information entered into the journal's online submission system is accurate.
-
Providing complete names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and other required author information.
-
Confirming that all authors have approved the submission and agreed to the authorship arrangement.
-
Ensuring that the contribution statement accurately describes each author's role.
-
Communicating editorial decisions, reviewer comments, and revision requests to the co-authors.
-
Coordinating responses to reviewers and submitting revised manuscripts.
-
Ensuring that all authors approve the final version before publication.
The corresponding author must not make authorship decisions on behalf of other contributors without their knowledge and agreement.
4. Author Order and Contributions
The order of authors should be determined collectively by the authors before submission and should reflect their respective scholarly contributions and agreed responsibilities.
All submitted manuscripts must include a statement describing the individual contributions of each author. The contribution statement must accurately reflect the roles performed by each author in the research and manuscript preparation.
Contributions may include, where applicable:
-
Conceptualization: developing the research idea and objectives.
-
Methodology: designing the research methods.
-
Data collection or investigation: collecting data or conducting research activities.
-
Formal analysis: analyzing and interpreting the data.
-
Writing – original draft: preparing the initial manuscript.
-
Writing – review and editing: critically reviewing and revising the manuscript.
-
Supervision: providing academic guidance for the research.
-
Project administration: coordinating research activities.
Only contributions that accurately reflect the work performed should be reported. Not every author is expected to perform the same roles.
All listed authors must agree to the final author order and the description of their contributions. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that the contribution statement is complete and accurate before submission.
5. Contributors and Acknowledgments
Individuals who contribute to a manuscript but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged in a dedicated acknowledgment section, with their permission where appropriate.
Such contributions may include administrative assistance, technical support, language editing, or other forms of assistance that do not constitute substantial intellectual contributions to the work.
Acknowledgment must not be used as a substitute for authorship when an individual's contribution meets the journal's authorship criteria. Honorary, guest, or gift authorship is not permitted.
6. Changes to Authorship
Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a clear explanation and the written agreement of all listed authors and any individuals proposed to be added or removed.
The corresponding author must submit the request to the editorial team, explaining the reason for the proposed change. The editorial team may request additional documentation or confirmation before making a decision. No changes to authorship may be made without the journal's approval.
Changes to authorship after acceptance or publication will be considered only when justified and appropriately documented. The journal reserves the right to suspend editorial processing while a substantial authorship dispute is being clarified.
7. Disputes Concerning Authorship
Authorship disputes should first be discussed and resolved among the individuals involved. If a dispute cannot be resolved, the journal may request clarification or supporting documentation from the authors' affiliated institutions or other appropriate parties.
The journal will not determine employment, academic promotion, or institutional ownership disputes. Editorial action will focus on ensuring that the published author list and contribution statements are accurate and appropriately authorized.
8. Misrepresentation of Authorship
The following practices are unacceptable:
-
Guest or honorary authorship: listing an individual who has not made a qualifying scholarly contribution.
-
Ghost authorship: excluding an individual who has made a substantial contribution and meets the journal's authorship criteria.
-
False contribution statements: inaccurately describing an individual's role in the research or manuscript.
-
Unauthorized authorship changes: adding, removing, or rearranging authors without the required agreement and journal approval.
-
Unapproved submission: submitting a manuscript without the knowledge and approval of all listed authors.
Suspected violations may be investigated in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics policy. Depending on the findings, the journal may request corrections, reject the manuscript, or take other appropriate editorial action.
9. Author Approval and Accountability
By submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Kesehatan, the corresponding author confirms that all listed authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version, agree to the authorship arrangement and contribution statement, and consent to the submission.
All authors remain responsible for the integrity of their own contributions and must cooperate in addressing questions concerning the research or publication.
The journal may request additional confirmation of authorship or contribution statements when necessary.
