AI Policy
Jurnal Kesehatan Yatsi Madani recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI and AI-assisted technologies, may support academic writing, language editing, translation, and other research-related activities. However, their use must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with research integrity and publication ethics.
Authors, reviewers, and editors remain responsible for their work and decisions. AI tools must not replace human judgment, scientific expertise, or accountability.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools for appropriate supporting tasks, such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, and assistance with coding or data analysis, provided that the outputs are carefully checked and verified.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts, including any content generated or assisted by AI. Authors must verify factual claims, clinical information, statistical interpretations, and references suggested by AI tools before submission.
AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify research data, invent references, misrepresent research findings, generate misleading evidence, or conceal plagiarism or other forms of research misconduct.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools when these tools contribute substantively to manuscript preparation, such as generating or rewriting text, producing images, or assisting with data analysis or interpretation.
The disclosure should identify the AI tool used, its purpose, and the relevant tasks or sections of the manuscript. It may be included in the Acknowledgments, Methods, or a separate AI Use Declaration, as appropriate to the nature of the research.
Routine spelling, grammar, and basic language correction do not require disclosure unless they involve substantive content generation or rewriting.
Authors may use the following statement when applicable:
“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [describe the purpose of use]. The authors reviewed, edited, and verified the resulting content and take full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the manuscript.”
If no generative AI tools were used, authors may state:
“The authors declare that no generative AI tools were used in the preparation of this manuscript.”
3. AI and Authorship
AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Kesehatan Yatsi Madani. Authorship requires intellectual contribution, approval of the final manuscript, and accountability for the published work, responsibilities that must be fulfilled by human authors.
Authors must ensure that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship requirements and accept responsibility for the work.
4. AI in Health Research and Research Materials
Particular care must be taken when AI tools are used in health-related research, including clinical studies, patient data analysis, medical images, and other sensitive research materials.
AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or deceptively manipulate research data, medical images, clinical findings, or statistical results. AI-assisted analyses must be appropriately described when relevant to the research methods, and the results must be independently verified by the authors.
Authors must also protect patient privacy, research participant confidentiality, informed consent, and other applicable ethical and legal requirements. Confidential patient information or identifiable research data must not be entered into AI tools or services unless appropriate authorization and data protection safeguards are in place.
5. Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and all materials received during peer review. They must not upload manuscripts, unpublished research data, figures, supplementary files, or confidential review materials to public or unauthorized AI tools.
Reviewers must conduct their evaluations independently. AI tools must not replace the reviewer's expert judgment or be used to generate substantive assessments or recommendations in place of an independent review.
6. Use of AI by Editors
Editors and editorial staff must maintain confidentiality, editorial independence, and fairness throughout the publication process. They must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, author information, or unpublished research data to public or unauthorized AI services.
AI tools may provide limited assistance with appropriate administrative tasks, but they must not replace human judgment in decisions concerning acceptance, rejection, research integrity, or publication ethics. Final editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the authorized editor.
7. Compliance and Editorial Action
The journal may investigate suspected undisclosed or inappropriate AI use when concerns arise during submission, peer review, or after publication. Authors may be asked to provide clarification about their use of AI tools.
Where AI use results in fabricated information, false references, plagiarism, unreliable findings, or other breaches of publication ethics, the journal may take appropriate action in accordance with its editorial policies. Such action may include requesting revisions, rejecting a manuscript, publishing a correction, or retracting a published article when warranted.
Commitment to Responsible AI Use
Jurnal Kesehatan Yatsi Madani supports the responsible use of AI as an aid to scholarly work, provided that transparency, scientific integrity, confidentiality, and human accountability are maintained throughout the research and publication process.
