THE INFLUENCE OF SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS CARTOON MOVIE ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 11 KOTA TANGERANG

Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

            The aim of this research was to find out the influence of SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon movie on students’ speaking skill. This research was conducted at the eleventh grade of SMAN 11 Kota Tangerang of academic year 2013/2014. The researcher conducted this research based on a research question of the research problem about “The Influence of SpongeBob SquarePants Cartoon Movie on Students’ Speaking Skill at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 11 Kota Tangerang”.

            The researcher conducted this research by applying quantitative research with true experimental as a method. In this research, all the students in the eleventh grade of SMAN 11 Kota Tangerang were taken as population. This research involved two groups were selected as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique taken by lottery from some pieces of rolled paper. So, the sample of this research was 60 students, 30 students as an experimental group and 30 students as a control group.

            The result of the research revealed a finding to the research question. It was showed by score of pre-test and post-test. The average score of pre-test in control group was 56.8 it became 62.27 at the post-test. Meanwhile, in experimental group the average score of pre-test was 59.33 and it became 70.93 on post-test. The hypothesis test used independent t-test the result of this result showed that tcount > ttable = 4.884 > 2.002. It means that there was a significant influence between SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon movie and the group with conventional teaching.

            Based on the result of the research, the researcher concluded that giving SpongeBob SquarePants was one of appropriate media influenced toward students’ speaking skill in order to be students became active in learning speaking.
